X-Wing: Firespray Repaint

I don't know, I always felt Slave 1 was a goofy looking ship.  To me it looks like a clothes iron that flies like a shoe but after messing around with it in X-Wing I've come to respect what a beast it is on the tabletop.  33 points isn't cheap for the base model and upgrades can easily cost you half your squad's points but the combination of flexible firepower and its generous maneuver dial makes me forgive its unconventional design.

I knew I wanted to repaint one in a bit more unconventional livery and discovered in a book that Kuat build the Firespray as a patrol and prisoner transport craft, one of which Jango Fett stole and later modified to become Slave 1.  It's therefore appropriate to paint a Firespray to look Imperial, maybe a backwater system that lacks Sigma transports but is hesitant to rely on private contractors.  Paint scheme-wise I'm thinking a two tone gray to offset the main body with the lower "skirt" - dark gray along the bottom, light gray for the main body, black for the cockpit window, and some splashes of red on the winglets.  There's plenty of real estate for Aurebesh characters and battle damage.

For an Imperial craft, however, I feel the guns are simply too small as I usually upgun the Firespray in my lists.  It'll be a quick conversion I've planned, just some tubing and rod glued together to give the guns a more substantial and asymmetric look.  One will be longer than the other to represent a heavy cannon while maybe a dual barrel will serve as an ion cannon.  That gives me the idea of spending even more time with this task and magnetizing the guns for true WYSIWYG but that isn't really worth it.  I will need to find that small bottle of gray brush on primer I've got somewhere before painting them.  Painting the Imperial symbol on the body might be a trick unless I find or figure out how to make transfers.

For the rear I've settled on orange for the engine glow as it will offset the gray body nicely and maybe dark yellow along the ramp section leading up to the hatch.  Perhaps hazard hashes as designed by the Imperial Health and Human Safety Division...

Modding the weapons on this ship gives me an idea for another Firespray, cutting open panels to create hidden weapon barrels emerging from behind flaps.  Too much effort or worth doing?
